Tommaso Benvenuti and Lorenzo Cittadini have been called up by Italy to replace Zebre pair Leonardo Sarto and Dario Chistolini.

The two Zebre players are among three from the club, as well as Andries Strauss, who have been indefinitely suspended following last night’s historic win over Brive.

Zebre have issued a statement explaining that the three players are suspended until October 29th, when a disciplinary committee will decide on their punishments.

According to the statement, they are under investigation for actions contrary to the principles of discipline and respect that an athlete must have towards their club, staff and team.

Sarto was one of the standout players for Italy during the last Six Nations, while Chistolini has broken into the international set-up since joining the Italian side from Gloucester.

The decision means a recall for Benvenuti, who has not featured for the Azzurri since 2013.

Cittadini has also been in fine form since his offseason move to Wasps as part of the Treviso mass exodus.
