Northampton hooker Dylan Hartley is focused on a big season for his club, despite the prospect of a British and Irish Lions tour looming.
The 30-year-old, who helped lead England to a Six Nations Grand Slam and 3-0 series win in Australia in 2016, is enjoying a purple patch.
But he knows that anything but his best performances in 2016/17 for the Saints won’t be good enough as he looks forward to this campaign.
“I want to help Northampton do well after we underachieved last year,” he told the Northampton Saints website. “The league is more open than ever.
“How do you get to be picked by the Lions? You play well for your country. How do you get to play for your country? You play well for your club. How do you play well for your club? You train hard in pre-season, which is now, and you start the season well,” the hooker continued.
“For me it is all about Northampton, playing well, making sure I hold my hand up, making sure Eddie (Jones) sees me and I am in good form.
“I am just happy with where I am at the moment, focusing on club and country.”
