Ireland flanker Peter O'Mahony is an injury doubt for the Six Nations leaders' next match against Italy in two weeks time.

The openside from Munster sustained a hamstring strain during the 10-13 loss to England at Twickenham last Saturday.

An inspiration so far in the tournament and Man of the Match against Wales in Round Two, losing O'Mahony would be a significant blow for Joe Schmidt.

“Peter has a hamstring strain. He will be monitored by the medical team over the course of the coming week,” read an IRFU medical update.

The other concern for Ireland is Brian O'Driscoll, who limped off during his 131st cap for his country.

“Brian had some calf cramping towards the end of the game but has been very focused on his recovery and will be further assessed over the coming week.

“No other player sustained any injury of note.

“The match day squad will assemble on Wednesday for a two day camp in Belfast this week.”
