International round-up: Switzerland topple Moldova

Simon Perrod scored 19 points as Switzerland clinched a vital victory over Moldova in Yverdon the two countries match in the 2016/2017 Rugby Europe Trophy.

The full-back’s boot played a major role in the outcome of the contest given that second-placed Moldova outscored their hosts by four tries to two.

Perrod however kept Switzerland out infront throughout the second half as he finished with five penalties and two conversions, the second by Oyonnax centre Jeremy To’a in the 70th minute giving Switzerland a crucial points buffer in the closing stages.

To’a’s try also meant that Moldova missed out on a try bonus point given that teams in the competition require to outscore their opponents by three tries or more.

Switzerland’s next match will come in March against Ukraine, who have lost all three of their matches so far.

Germany 36-14 Brazil

Germany made history by winning all three of their November matches for the first time after their comfortable victory over Brazil last weekend in front 2,700 supporters in Leipzig.

The win followed Germany’s previous victory over Brazil this month and their dramatic triumph over Uruguay.

Germany Jaco Otto scored two tries for the home side and was joined on the scoresheet by his back row colleagues Sebastian Ferreira and Timo Vollenkemper, and also by winger Clemens von Grumbkow. Full-back Harris Aounallah finished with four conversions and a penalty.

Cléber Dias grabbed Brazil’s only try with Moisés Duque kicking two penalties and a drop goal.
