‘I feel like a grandad’ – King

Scarlets senior back Regan King admits his younger team-mates are having a positive effect on him ahead of the new season.

The fan favourite returned to west Wales last season for his second stint with the region after time France with Clermont.

King will turn 35 in October and is stepping up into a leadership role in pre-season with many senior figures for the Scarlets away with Wales preparing for the Rugby World Cup.

The one-time All Black hopes that he can contribute to helping those younger players kick on before the PRO12 season starts on September 12 at home to Ulster.

"With the senior guys gone there's only a few of us who've been around and we're trying to help the young guys come out of their shells," King told Scarlets' website.

"I feel like a grandad out there. They're youthful and enthusiastic and hopefully it rubs off on me.

"I don't want to let them down. I don't want to let any of my team-mates down.

"It's about keeping in as good a condition as I can and as long as I keep offering something, I'm really happy to play."
