Highlanders lose Edmonds to injury

The Highlanders have revealed that their prop Brendon Edmonds could miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury.

Edmonds was forced off the field during the early stages of the Highlanders' 32-20 Round Six victory over the Western Force in Dunedin.

Scans have confirmed that he has ruptured ligaments in his left knee and will undergo reconstructive surgery before the end of the month.

"This is really bad luck for Doogie," Highlanders head coach Jamie Joseph told Fairfax Media.

"He is such a great guy in the environment as well as being an outstanding prop.

"We hope he recovers from the surgery quickly and rehabs well."

Dan Lienert-Brown, who replaced Edmonds against the Force, and Craig Millar are the Highlanders' other loosehead props.
