Scarlets have suffered a major blow after wing Johnny McNicholl was ruled out for up to four weeks after undergoing a hernia operation.

The 26-year-old, who only arrived at the region from Canterbury after the Mitre 10 Cup, was in excellent form so his absence is a setback.

“Johnny McNicholl had emergency surgery on Monday afternoon for an acute medical complaint,” read a Scarlets statement on Thursday.

“It is anticipated that his recovery will be uncomplicated and he will be available for selection later this month.”
