Ulster and Ireland are set to be without lock Iain Henderson for several months after it was revealed he will need a hip operation.

The 22-year-old is one of the most highly-rated players in Ireland, having made his international debut in 2012.

He was part of the Irish squad that won the Six Nations earlier this year, before going on the June tour to Argentina.

However it appears he may now be out until the New Year, ruling him out of the November Tests as he recovers from a hip problem.

Henderson can also play in the back row, and has established himself as a regular with Ulster since making his breakthrough in 2012.

He is not the only player who Ulster could be without, as Jared Payne recovers from a hip problem of his own that he picked up against the Scarlets.
