The Waratahs are reportedly closing in on the signing of Bryce Hegarty as fly-half cover for the upcoming Super Rugby campaign.
With their recognised pivot Bernard Foley still being away in Japan with the Ricoh Black Rams, the 'Tahs are short of options at number ten.
That's led to talk of former Wallaby Berrick Barnes possibly making a return but according to Fox Sports, Hegarty is a more likely deal.
"Without our two fly-halves, Bernard Foley and another returning from Japan, we're without a real playmaker there and so we're filling in at the moment. Once Bernard comes back we'll be a far more complete side," said Waratahs head coach Daryl Gibson.
"Given the make-up of our squad we're really quite short of an understudy to Bernard Foley and we're looking at a number of options.
"Hopefully that will be named in the next week.
"Internationally, we really want someone who's just a solid, good all-rounder."
