Wasps captain James Haskell has been forced to remain in hospital as he struggles to overcome a viral infection.

Haskell was forced to sit out Sunday’s European Cup game against Leinster after displaying flu-like symptoms. Following deterioration overnight, he was admitted to hospital by the club doctor.

Having undergone a series of tests it is believed for former England loose forward is suffering from a viral infection, however he will remain under observation in hospital and is expected to be discharged within the next couple of days.

Meanwhile, full-back Andrea Masi was involved in a collision in the game against Leinster, which led to him being withdrawn for an HIA (Head Injury Assessment).

The HIA and all subsequent tests have shown no evidence of concussion, however the club does not want to take any risks and so has decided, alongside the Italian Federation, for Andrea to stay at Wasps to be monitored during light training on Tuesday, before being allowed to return to full training on Wednesday.

Masi will therefore not fly to Italy to join up with the Italian squad, before returning on Thursday as originally planned.
