All Blacks head coach Steve Hansen didn’t hold back on his players in the first training session ahead of this weekend’s Test match.

Still sore from the 27-25 loss to South Africa at Ellis Park, Hansen worked closely with New Zealand’s backs in Tuesday’s session.

Defeat has been a rare sensation for the All Blacks over the last three years, hence Hansen’s determined response as his side prepare to face the Wallabies this weekend.

Hooker Dane Coles knows that Hansen’s stance wasn’t a personal attack on his players, purely a drive to succeed.

“He is a straight shooter… he didn’t hold back,” Coles told Stuff.

“It is not personal; it is for the benefit of yourself and the team.

“A loss does make you a bit shitty, you get a bit of a sore gut I suppose – like something that doesn’t sit well.

“I suppose he is feeling that and making sure we have got an edge.”
