Northampton director of rugby Jim Mallinder has revealed that fly-half JJ Hanrahan will miss the start of 2016/17 due to an ankle injury.
Saints start their Premiership season at home to Bath on Saturday, but the versatile Irish playmaker is set to miss the opening games.
The Northampton Chronicle and Echo has confirmed that the former Munster player suffered the injury during last Friday's loss at Ulster.
"Unfortunately, JJ has hurt his ankle. He did that last week and he will be out for a few weeks," said Mallinder ahead of their opener.
In a boost, however, England back-row Teimana Harrison is set to return this weekend after a recent knock as he looks for a strong year.
"Teimana had a niggle from training so we left him out as a precaution, but he'll be fit and raring to go this weekend,” Mallinder added.
