Sunwolves coach Mark Hammett has belatedly confirmed his departure from the Japanese Super Rugby team.
Hammett, who has already been announced as the Highlanders assistant coach, said he was proud to coach the Sunwolves in his short one-year spell.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed leading the Sunwolves in our first season of Super Rugby and it will be sad to leave behind good friends, players and staff, and of course the memories which include our historic win against the Jaguares at Chichibu Stadium," he told Japan Times.
"I am extremely proud of what the Sunwolves organization has achieved on and off the field, and I believe I leave the Sunwolves in a strong position where they can improve and evolve into a highly competitive Super Rugby team."
The Sunwolves have not yet found a replacement.
