Halfpenny to miss Toulon quarter

Toulon will be without Wales full-back Leigh Halfpenny for their European Champions Cup clash with Wasps on Sunday.

The Wales star was hoping to make a return to action after suffering a concussion on the final weekend of the Six Nations against Italy, but after consulting with a neurosurgeon it was decided he needed to take some more time off.

It's a major blow for the two-time European champions, however there was some good news as Delon Armitage looks set to be passed fit and should start in Halfpenny's place.

With Matt Giteau expected to make his playing return from the bench, Frédéric Michalak is in line to start at fly-half and will be charged with goal-kicking duties at Mayol.

Toulon were beaten at home by Toulouse last weekend, but have never lost a home game in Europe's top competition.

As well as Halfpenny, they are also missing Springbok pair Bryan Habana and Juan Smith, who were ruled out earlier this week.
