Sale Sharks have announced that 22-year-old full-back Mike Haley has signed a new three-year deal with the Premiership club.

Preston-born Haley started playing his rugby at Preston Grasshoppers as an eight-year-old and made his debut in the LV= Semi Final against Saracens in 2013.

He was picked ahead of Luke Mclean for Sale’s Heineken Cup game at the AJ Bell Stadium in October 2014 and has been a virtual ever present since.

Haley has played 57 games for the club scoring ten tries.

Sale Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond said: “Mike is one of the best full-backs in the game and for him to sign a three-year deal is great news for the club.

“He can go all the way to the top and it’s a statement to clubs out there that we intend to keep hold of our home grown players as we aim to become one of the best clubs in Aviva Premiership Rugby.”

Haley commented: “I’m delighted to sign a new deal at the club.

“It’s a great environment and with the recent takeover of the club there is a good feeling around the club.

“I am a Preston lad, played all my rugby in the North West, and want to help build the club and reach its full potential.”
