France hooker Guilhem Guirado has been touted as the next in line to take over the national side's captaincy by Thierry Dusautoir.

Guirado has been outstanding for France during 2015, securing the number two shirt in the face of some stiff competition from Benjamin Kayser and Dimitri Szarzewski.

With France now set to appoint a new captain, the 29-year-old Toulon hooker is a leading candidate in the eyes of Dusautoir, who retired from international rugby last week.

"Right now he's in pole position," he told Rugbyrama.

"I wish him the best. And if it happens, I hope that he makes the most of it, because he deserves it."

Guirado refused to comment on how he would feel about taking over such an important role, as les Bleus seek to recover from a disastrous World Cup campaign in the new era under Guy Novès.

However he believes that starting regularly for France in 2015 has given him plenty of confidence.

"We'll let the new coaching staff take their time to think it over," Guirado told Rugbyrama.

"Over the last year, I've been lucky enough to play [regularly] and that has made me more confident."
