The Griquas were able to pip the Pumas 41-35 in Nelspruit on Friday after a try-fest between the two sides.

The win sees the Griquas jump up the log to fifth place after the win which puts them in good stead in the standings.

The Pumas' loss continues their terrible run of form after three losses and big losses at that.

The Griquas showed great composure throughout the game but the real hero of the match Griquas number 12 Clinton Swart who knocked over five penalties to really give his side the edge.

The score at half time was 23-18 to the away side after a tightly contested first half.

Griquas scrum-half Rudi van Rooyen was instrumental for his after scoring a brace through some clever running and putting himself in the correct positions on the field.

Francois Brummer got the early lead for his side when he kicked a penalty perfectly through the up rights.

The Griquas didn't stay quiet for long as they were given a penalty and Swart got his first points for his side

The Pumas scored the first try of the game when they were in the Griquas 22m metre and swung it wide to JP Lewis who found an empty try line in front of him and dotted down for his side.

The Griquas scored immediately afterwards after the Griquas created a maul on the Pumas 22 metre and gave it blind for Van Rooyen to canter over the try line unopposed.

The Pumas got their second try of the match when lock Jannie Stander got given the ball close to the Griquas the line and with the help of some support behind him crashed over the line.

The Griquas scored directly after the beginning of the second half after a kick from Brummer went awry, the Griquas outside centre Jonathan Francke straightened the line and gave it wide to Alshaun Bock who had too much pace for the Pumas and scored his side's third try.

The Pumas were eventually able to get over the line after a hard worked try by the home side as they set up a maul on the Griquas tryline and Schoeman was able to push over the line for the five pointer.

Frankie Herne then took the lead back for his side. After some strong running from his team mates they set up a perfect attacking position for Herne who got a pop pass and he crashed over for the try.
