Wasps fly-half Jimmy Gopperth has lost his appeal against a three-week suspension he received on Wednesday.

Gopperth was given a yellow card after he collided with Leicester Tigers back Mathew Tait in mid-air while the latter was attempting to catch a kick in Sunday's Premiership clash at Welford Road.

After further investigation, the RFU handed the former Hurricanes pivot a three-week ban. Gopperth pleaded guilty to the offence, but also lodged an appeal against the length of the ban.

"Gopperth received a three week ban by a RFU disciplinary panel on Tuesday night,” read a stement from the RFU.

"The player pleaded guilty to punching or striking, contrary to law 10.4(a) during the Leicester Tigers vs Wasps game on November 1. He is free to play again on November 24."
