Ulster wing Craig Gilroy believes their clash with Toulon on Saturday will be a “great occasion” as they look to beat the two-time European champions.

Saturday will see Ravenhill packed for the arrival of the Top 14 and European holders, with Ulster keen to bounce back from last week’s defeat.

And Gilroy cannot wait for kick-off against the back-to-back tournament winners, who opened their pool campaign with a win over the Scarlets.

“Playing them is a massive challenge for us”, he told ahead of Saturday’s fixture.

“It’s going to be a great occasion. It’s Europe and the team that are coming are the European Champions. They are full of stars but at the same time we are at home. We have fans that give us so much buzz and something to really play for.

“We respect Toulon, but at the same time we are going to take it to them, enjoy the day and show what we can do.”

He added: “On paper they have some of the best players in the world representing them.”

“Certainly you will struggle to find a team as good, but you can pump everything into a team and sometimes it doesn’t quite gel. However, having said that, there is no doubt that they have individuals who can cause you damage.

“Without putting too much pressure on ourselves, we want to put in a big performance. It would be good to head down to Ireland camp with a big result at home.”
