Waratahs head coach Daryl Gibson has given Israel Folau four games to prove himself at outside centre before a possible switch.
Folau is adept at playing in the 13 jersey but has also proved himself at full-back for the Wallabies and Waratahs on many occasions.
Gibson hailed Folau’s performance against the Sharks after the League convert scored two tries to save his team from an embarrassing score during their 34-17 loss to the Durban side.
The ‘Tahs boss stated they will discuss the Folau-at-13 experiment during their bye in Round 8.
“I made it pretty clear we’re going to give him until round seven, then sit down in the bye week and talk about where we think we’re at, so it is an experiment,” Gibson told WA Today.
“Israel had his best game at centre, he had huge involvement, which is something we’ve been wanting to achieve with him over the last two rounds.
“He had a major impact in the game, he went searching for the ball, so I think he’s starting to get to grips with, positionally, how he gets himself into the game.”
The Waratahs next games are against the Brumbies, Rebels, Crusaders and Hurricanes before their bye.
