Wales coach Warren Gatland has revealed he will not sanction Taulupe Faletau's proposed move from the Dragons to Premiership outfit Bath.

Faletau is believed to be eager to follow in the footsteps of his Wales team-mates Jamie Roberts, Rhys Priestland and George North by furthering his career in England.

The Wales number eight still has one year left on his current contract with the Dragons but Bath have agreed to pay a fee which will allow him to join them.

Faletau is not amongst the Welsh Rugby Union's centrally contracted players and with Gatland only allowed two wildcard choices to select overseas-based players from, he will not approve Faletau's move to Bath and hopes the 24-year-old can come to an agreement to continue playing for a Welsh club.

"I would be limiting myself and why would I do that?" Gatland told Sky Sports News

"At the moment, unless something changes, hopefully he will be playing in Wales (next season).

"Wales has a smaller playing base, just four teams. We want to keep players in Wales but we have dispensation to pick a couple of players outside (of Wales)."
