Galarza appeals long ban

Argentina have confirmed that they will appeal Mariano Galarza's nine-week ban for making contact with the eyes of Brodie Retallick.

The Pumas lock was suspended following Argentina's loss to New Zealand in their opening game of the tournament at Wembley last Sunday.

The incident took place in the first half, with Galarza appearing to make contact with Retallick during a maul.

Galarza was found guilty of making contact with the eye(s) or eye area of an opponent in breach of Law 10.4(m).

The appeal will be heard by Professor Lorne Crerar (Scotland, Chairman), Justice Graeme Mew (Canada) and Robbie Deans (New Zealand) at the Clifford Chance offices in London at 10:00 on 27 September.

If the appeal is unsuccessful, Galarza will not feature again in the World Cup, and the Pumas will not be able to replace him in their squad.
