Marco Fuser has been called into the Italy squad as a replacement for second row Quintin Geldenhuys.
The 23-year-old Treviso lock has two Italy caps to his name, having come off the bench against Canada in 2012, before featuring in last year’s June tour to Japan.
Zebre second row Quintin Geldenhuys has been struggling with a knee ligament injury that he picked up in training.
He underwent tests on Tuesday that revealed damage to the medial ligament in his right knee.
Fuser joins veteran Marco Bortolami as well as Josh Furno and George Biagi, the other locks in the squad.
Italy will kick off their campaign at home to Ireland next Saturday before travelling to England in round two.
