Fraser to focus on education

Edinburgh and former Scotland under-20 scrum-half Hugh Fraser has today announced his decision to step back from professional rugby to focus further on his education.

Born in London to Scottish parents, the 21-year-old rose through the ranks of Teddington, Esher and London Irish before making the move to Edinburgh in 2014. At the age of 15, Fraser became the youngest ever player to be centrally contracted to Scottish Rugby and completed his sixth form at Merchiston Castle School.

Fraser has represented Scotland at a multitude of age grades, including under-16, under-18, under-19 and under-20 levels. In 2016, whilst taking part in the World Rugby U20 Championship, the Scotland age grade player was rewarded for his stellar play and was voted the scrum-half of the tournament.

As a key member of the Heriots' squad, Fraser won a Premiership and Cup double during the capital club’s highly successful 2015/16 season.

However, as an investment in his ambition to succeed within a future career in commercial property, the 21-year-old has decided to take a step back from professional rugby.

On his decision, Fraser said: "I am really grateful to Scottish Rugby and Edinburgh for supporting my education during training and for their recognition of how important it is for young players in today's professional game.
