Owen Franks will take no part in the Crusaders' clash against the Highlanders on Saturday after being hospitalised with an elbow infection.
It is believed that the prop suffered a gash to his elbow while on duty with the All Blacks, with the wound subsequently becoming infected.
“He was hospitalised for two days with an infection,” explained Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder.
“We really haven't seen him. It's just been about him getting over his infection and getting the recovery he needs. It's quite serious. He came back on Sunday and felt really unwell and went to accident and emergency and they took him to hospital for two days.”
“He's sort of battling through with antibiotics but obviously after a big game like last week he was rundown and nature took its course,” he added.
Nepo Laulala will wear the number three jersey in Franks' absence.
