Franco Smith to leave Bok post

Franco Smith will leave his post as Springbok assistant coach and return to his role as Cheetahs head coach at the end of the season.

Smith will replace Rory Duncan, who will take over the reins at Worcester Warriors when the European season ends.

According to SaRugbyMag, new Springbok director of rugby Rassie Erasmus approached Venter to move to Cape Town where the national side is based.

But as Venter's family is settled in Bloemfontein, the 45-year-old has opted to take up his role as head coach of the Cheetahs, whom he first joined as head coach in 2015 following Naka Drotske's departure.

"Free State Rugby had long interviews and discussions about the situation and the process was completed in good spirit," said Cheetahs MD Harold Verster.

"Free State Rugby is excited and thankful that Franco made the decision to stay. His rugby expertise and coaching ability is invaluable to the Cheetahs."
