France will bid to host the 2023 World Cup, it was confirmed on Saturday at the end of the FFR's general assembly.
Five countries, including France, had already been linked to bids for the tournament, and the FFR confirmed they would bid, with the decision set to be made in 2017.
Ireland have already announced that they will bid to host the tournament, while Italy, the USA and South Africa are also in the running.
France last hosted the tournament in 2007, although some pool games and one quarter-final took place in Scotland and Wales.
This year's World Cup will be hosted by England and Wales, with the 2019 edition heading to Japan.
