Sharks hooker Monde Hadebe has received a four-year ban for using steroids, according to reports in the South African media.

Khalid Galant, chief executive officer for the South African Institute for Drug Free Sport (SAIDS), told Sport24 that Hadebe tested positive for two forbidden forms of steroid.

Hadebe has played in three Super Rugby matches for the Sharks although he hasn't made any appearances in the competition in 2016. The 25-year-old went to the Kings during pre-season but returned to the Sharks after he apparently sustained an injury.

Hadebe also represented South Africa at U20 level in 2010.
