George Ford will continue at fly-half for England against Australia on Saturday, head coach Stuart Lancaster has confirmed.

The Bath fly-half made his first start for England in the win over Samoa last weekend, and impressed despite some bruising hits coming in.

He will therefore keep his place ahead of Owen Farrell, who started the Samoa game at inside centre.

However it appears that Farrell may miss out on the starting line-up altogether against the Wallabies, with Billy Twelvetrees having impressed in training and in line for the 12 jersey.

“George has earned the right to start again,” confirmed Lancaster.

“He’s played well enough for that. At the time, I felt it was a good performance and on review it definitely was.

“Billy Twelvetrees impressed me from the bench, he did well and brought good energy to the team.

“He’s worked hard on the feedback we gave him when he came back into camp and he’s a genuine prospect for us at 12.”

England are optimistic that second row Courtney Lawes will be ready to go against Australia despite hyperextending his knee against Samoa.
