Australia hero Bernard Foley praised his team's work-rate after they stunned England 33-13 at Twickenham to knock the hosts out of the Rugby World Cup.

Fly-half Foley was man of the match on Saturday as he scored 28 of his side's points thanks to two tries, three conversions and four penalties.

But he was quick to share the applause after the impressive performance.

"I was lucky to be on the end of some really good team structure. The work-rate was world-class and it's very satisfying to get that result against such a quality side," he said.

"We wanted to put in a performance to make Australians proud, and we delivered. It's definitely up there and we can take a lot of confidence out of that for next week (the match against Wales).

"We knew what they had to play for, and if we could start well they would have to chase the game and it would be a tougher ask. That lead was invaluable."

Australia came out on top in many areas at Twickenham, one being the back-row where Foley believes had a key influence on his own performance.

"They put their heads where not many people would want to, and that allows people to do their jobs. For me it made it a lot easier, but I didn't think it would go that well," he concluded.
