France will be without star centre Wesley Fofana for next Saturday's Six Nations opener against Italy in Paris.
Fofana suffered a blow to the ribs during Clermont's defeat to Montpellier in the Top 14 on Saturday. How long he'll be sidelined for has not been specified.
France head coach Guy Novès had been expected to name Fofana on the wing, making his injury a real blow for the new boss ahead of his first game in charge.
Racing 92's Teddy Thomas, who has four caps, has been called up to the squad to replace Fofana.
Thomas himself has only just returned from injury, with only 60 minutes under his belt this season which came during Saturday's win over Oyonnax.
