Fleck resisted picking Scotland’s Jones

Stormers head coach Robbie Fleck revealed that Scotland centre Huw Jones trained with the side on Tuesday this week.

Jones has been on Six Nations duty throughout the Stormers’ pre-season but returned to Cape Town this week and took part in Tuesday’s training session.

An injury crisis in midfield has seen the Stormers lose Damian de Allende and Juan de Jongh, tempting Fleck to select Jones for this weekend’s match against the Jaguares.

But Fleck admitted that the Scotland international’s focus was on next weekend’s Calcutta Cup clash with England at Twickenham.

“Huw trained on Tuesday, but we decided that in terms of continuity of selection, we went with Dan Kriel‚” Fleck told Business Day.

“Huw has a massive game against England next week‚ which is a decider. To be fair to him‚ his mind is on that game. There has been no pressure from Scotland. We have been in constant communication with them.”

Focussing on Saturday’s game, Stormers captain Siya Kolisi is prepared for the Jaguares frenetic attack after last weekend’s win over the Bulls.

“The Jaguares didn’t start well against the Kings last week‚ but they ended well by scoring a few nice tries‚” Kolisi said.

“They like to run the ball‚ they want quick breakdowns‚ they want continuity and they like to attack from turnover. They attack wider‚ which is different to last week.

“It’s a different challenge because they have speed‚ good steppers and they like to use the inside pass‚ so we have to expect everything this week.”
