Fleck not impressed with Stormers victory

Stormers Head Coach Robbie Fleck was not impressed with his side's 20-10 victory over the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Fleck gave credit to the Cheetahs for keeping them at bay for three quarters of the match.

The visitors haven't won in Bloemfontein since 2012, but this historical moment was not enough for the coach.

"It’s always tough for us to come up here and play the Cheetahs but it’s a nice win for us and we’ll take that," Fleck told Sport24.

"But overall, not happy with our performance."

The former Stormers midfielder said they weren't as dominant in Bloemfontein as they were in the 33-9 victory over the Bulls last week.

"As good as we were last week (against the Bulls), we weren’t as accurate as we should have been and credit to the Cheetahs… they got under our skin for the first 60."

The final quarter of the match was what stood out for the Stormers mentor, pointing out that they lacked structure in the first half.

"We weren’t accurate. I think we were too loose in that first half but the half-time chat was good and we were better in the second half," Fleck.

"We just weren’t clinical. It was just a matter of having patience, and we didn’t have that in that first 60."

Even a man of the match performance from Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth was not enough to put Fleck at ease and reassure him that they were on standard.

"Eben did play well… he was strong and physical.

"But overall I felt that our pack didn’t play as well as it should have.

"We were slow to react… our first half set piece wasn’t good enough."
