Fleck issues rallying cry

Stormers head coach Robbie Fleck wants his side to “give absolutely everything” against the Rebels as they look to seal a knockout spot.

Following the June international break Super Rugby action resumes this weekend, and Fleck knows that the three games before the play-off phase will be crucial for his side as they look to protect their lead at the top of Africa Conference One to secure a home quarter-final.

“There are three games left and we need to give absolutely everything in every game we play to qualify,” he told the Stormers‘ website.

“The main thing for us is that we have to gain momentum both on the field and off the field. It is going to be three crucial weeks and the team is excited to be back and playing together.

“We have got some plans in place and we are excited to have the Springboks back and we are just excited to get out there again.”

The Stormers are without both co-captains, Frans Malherbe and Juan de Jongh, this weekend so Schalk Burger will lead the side in Melbourne.

“It is a very easy transition for Schalk to take over, he has supported Juan and Frans very well this season and whenever they weren’t able to step up in terms of leadership he has,” added Fleck.

“Schalk is a great captain and he has been excellent over the last two weeks, and the players have responded really well.”

He added on the Rebels: “They are very tough to beat at home, it is a well-balanced side that has been together for the last two to three years under the same coaching staff.

“It is important that the players understand that we have got a big challenge ahead of us but we are very excited about what is to come this weekend.”
