Festuccia to leave Wasps

Wasps have confirmed that Italian hooker Carlo Festuccia will leave the club at the end of the season.

Festuccia joined Wasps in 2013 from Zebre and arrived with 54 Italian caps to his name, going on to make over 60 appearances for Wasps.

Festuccia will confirm his plans for next season in the coming weeks.

Wasps’ Director of Rugby Dai Young said: “Carlo has been fantastic for us during his three seasons with the club. His strength at the set piece and his international experience really benefited the young pack we had when he arrived.

“Carlo has played a big role in the development of that pack and in helping Ashley (Johnson) with his transition to hooker. He has produced some really good performances for us and I’m surprised he wasn’t involved with Italy for longer given his level of performance. We will wish him the very best when he heads off at the end of the season.

Festuccia said: “I have really enjoyed my time at Wasps. We have worked really hard over the last three years to bring Wasps back to where it should be, and it is great to see the progress the club has made under Derek [Richardson and Dai] during that time.

“I’d like to thank all the boys here at Wasps. We have a great atmosphere within this squad and I have really enjoyed spending the last three years here as part of this team.

"I'd also like to thank the coaches for what they’ve taught me. I’ve learnt a different way to prepare and approach games here in the English league. Also thank you to the physio team for looking after me every week.

“Finally a big thank you to all our Wasps’ supporters for their passion and for following us everywhere around Europe, supporting us even when things haven’t gone right. That has meant a lot to us and I will always appreciate the warm welcome they gave me.”
