Dragons number eight Taulupe Faletau will not need surgery to heal the ankle injury he sustained in the recent victory over Zebre.
That was the word from Dragons head coach Kingsley Jones, who revealed that the Wales back-row could be in the run-on side for the return match against Cardiff Blues on New Year’s Day after he missed the teams’ previous clash, on Boxing Day, due to his injury.
But despite his impending return, Jones warned that the injury will still require monitoring.
“It seems he tweaked an ankle,” Jones told Wales Online.
“The specialist he saw said it was nothing major and for ‘Toby’ to see how it goes.
“Sometimes there’s a rush for players to have surgery but it was decided to wait for it to settle down.
“Toby has trained. He’s done some running on it under the guidance of our medical staff and conditioning team.
“We haven’t ruled him out of the New Year’s Day derby with Cardiff Blues at Rodney Parade.”
