Cheetahs number eight Boom Prinsloo has extended his contract until the end of next season, according to reports.

Volksblad in South Africa state that the 25-year-old will continue playing his rugby in Bloemfontein in 2015. He is one of the top ten tacklers in Super Rugby this season with 132.

Prinsloo however will play no further part in the Super Rugby season as he is set to undergo groin surgery on Thursday. He should be fit for the Currie Cup opener on August 9.

The news of his re-signing however is positive, a day after Philip van der Walt announced he would be joining Biarritz.

The Cheetahs are bottom of the Super Rugby table, with only 20 points from their 14 matches.
