London Irish head coach Tom Coventry was thrilled to secure his first Premiership win in charge of the club after defeating Northampton.
A late penalty try clinched a 25-23 victory over the Saints for Irish, who as a result climb out of the bottom spot in the Premiership.
Coventry now hopes that the victory will serve as a springboard for bigger things this season after a tough start.
"I haven't had a lot to smile about," Coventry told reporters.
"It was a good sign that we could battle it out as we have been rolling over against other sides, but we showed a lot of backbone.
"It was like Christmas Day as we showed a lot of Christmas spirit to get there in the end.
"It was a definite shot in the arm as it's been a tough time and will give us a lot of confidence."
