Stormers head coach Allister Coetzee was left sweating over the fitness of second-row Eben Etzebeth after he came off against the Cheetahs.

Friday’s friendly fixture at Newlands saw the Springbok leave the field after sustaining a blow to his chest, with a scan expected this weekend.

The Stormers won the game 39-31.

“It was a big step up from last weekend. We were very clinical in the first half and stepped up across the board,” he told the Stormers‘ official Facebook page.

“We scrummed well, our breakdown work was good and we exited well… I thought our physicality was good too.”

Etzebeth was not alone in leaving the action though as fellow lock Manuel Carizza (shoulder) and right wing Kobus van Wyk (calf) also came off.

“They all need to undergo scans,” said Coetzee.

“We won’t be guessing until we see our medical reports and we certainly won’t be panicking right now.”
