Putting the fanfare over him becoming New Zealand’s record appearance holder aside, Richie McCaw just wants to get playing.

McCaw will overtake Sir Colin Meads’ tally of 133 appearances for the All Blacks when he runs out at Ellis Park.

The openside has won it all since making his debut back in 2001, but admits to still feeling the buzz of running out at South Africa’s stronghold.

“To play a match here at Ellis Park, that’s excitement enough,” McCaw told ONE News.

“That’s what I’m looking forward to the most.

“It’ll be nice to sit back and reflect on the milestones but I’d like to do it if we have a good performance and win.”

All Blacks head coach Steve Hansen expects McCaw’s celebrations off the field will be big enough when the time is right.

When he finishes he will look back with a lot of pride,” said Hansen.

“He shouldn’t have to buy a beer in NZ for the rest of his life, I don’t think Colin has.”
