Electric Griquas blitz feisty Kings

The Griquas beat a spirited Kings 47-24 in Kimberely after scoring a massive seven tries.

The Griquas looked outplayed in the first half but the home side then proceeded to score three tries in less ten minutes after the beginning of the second half to kick start their routing.

The bonus-point win sees the Griquas go straight into the top three of the Currie Cup trend setters as they sit at second with the Cheetahs on 14 points, behind the Sharks who have 19.

It's an unfortunate loss for the Kings who lead on the score board at half time 17-14 after some great running play. They sit at the bottom the log.

The hero for the Griquas was once again number 12 Clinton Swart who doesn't seem to know the meaning of a missed kick is. The Kings had their own rocket launcher of a kicker in Lungelo Goza, who slotted some great kicks, one from directly on the touch line and one from inside his own half.

The Kings had to make fourteen changes to their side after having to play three games in seven days after having to catch up from not playing in the first week.

There were a few individual performances to speak of after Kings winger Alcino Izaacs and Griquas fullback AJ Coertzen scored a brace each.

The first try of the game came through Griquas lock and Man of the Match Wandile Putuma who finished some handsome play by the home side. Putuma picked the ball up from the back of the ruck, reached out and dotted down.

The Kings first try came through Izaacs when they were awarded a scrum on the Griquas 22 metre and they showed some wonderful handling from the back of the scrum near the Griquas 10 metre line. The Kings spread the ball quickly and Isaacs leapt over the line.

The Griquas hammered the final nail in the Kings' coffin when they could not quite pierce through the Kings' line  but did however do enough to suck in the Kings defence and spread the ball wide for the captain to score his second try of the game.
