Wales have put to bed a report in the French press linking defence coach Shaun Edwards with a move to Toulon.

La Provence allege that Toulon are in the market for a specialist defence coach with Edwards being considered as a potential candidate.

Edwards re-signed with the WRU back in December last year following the Rugby World Cup, when speculation had linked him with a move to England.

And the prospect of Edwards taking on even a part-time role with Toulon, as is the case with fitness coach Paul Stridgeon, will not be considered.

“WRU and National Squad have a close working relationship with Toulon,” said a Wales team spokesman.

“As normal practice in this environment, there is always coaching career professional development and exchange of ideas and experience.

“Toulon coaches have spent time with us and we do that reciprocally and that is the situation here. Shaun is contracted to Wales through to 2019.”
