Edinburgh snap up back-row

Edinburgh have announced the signing of Scottish Rugby Academy back-row Ally Miller on a two-year deal, which ties him in until May 2019.

Miller was one of a number of players who moved down south to London Scottish at the start of the 2016/17 season as part of Scottish Rugby’s partnership with the Richmond club, making 15 appearances during his tenure in the Championship.

The back-row also recently made his Scotland 7s debut in Las Vegas and was yesterday named in the representative team’s squad for this year’s Hong Kong Sevens.

He is a product of the Scotland age-grade system having played for the national U18 and U20 side, where notably he received a man-of-the-match award in an away win over their Italian counterparts in the 2016 Six Nations.

On signing with Edinburgh, he said: “Coming through the Academy system and being an Edinburgh boy, signing for the club was always a goal of mine.

“My time at London Scottish has helped me massively. Immersing myself in a professional environment and competing in a tough league has really brought my game on.

“Edinburgh seems to be going in the right direction and I’m excited to work with a talented group. A lot of my peers – Jamie, Magnus and the likes – have been given a chance at the club and have really shown what they’re about, so I’m hoping I can do the same.

“Signing a fully pro-deal is the next step-up in my career, and I’m excited for what lies ahead.”

Acting head coach Duncan Hodge added: “We’ve been tracking Ally for a while now, and feel that his time as part of the BT Sport Academy and at London Scottish has served him well.

“He’s a mobile back-row and his style of play suits our attacking mind-set, so we’re excited to see what he has to offer at the club.

“It’s also great to be adding another young, Scottish talent to the squad, where he’s joined by a number of his national age-grade colleagues in the likes of Jamie Ritchie and Magnus Bradbury in the back-row.”
