A superb second-half performance saw Zebre overturn a seven-point deficit and defeat Edinburgh 18-10 in the Pro12.

Kelly Haimona initially took the Italian outfit in front via a penalty but Roddy Grant’s converted try and Tom Heathcote’s three-pointer eased the visitors into a 10-3 lead.

Zebre mounted a response in the final 30 minutes and they went ahead through another Haimona effort from the tee and Giulio Bisegni’s touchdown.

Michele Visentin then went over as the home team secured just their second Pro12 win of the campaign.

The visitors have endured a disappointing campaign, but an impressive victory over Cardiff Blues last weekend suggested that there was more to come from Alan Solomons’ men.

However, it was the hosts that opened the brighter and an 11th-minute Haimona penalty deservedly gave them the advantage.

But in truth it was a low quality game between two sides who resided in the bottom half of the table and it took until the 26th minute before the next piece of significant action when Valerio Bernabo was sin-binned for an infringement at the breakdown for Zebre.

Although Edinburgh failed to take advantage while he was off the field, Solomons’ team did finally make the breakthrough when Grant crossed the whitewash and Heathcote kicked the conversion to give them a 7-3 lead at the break.

A spate of yellow cards at the start of the second period saw the Italian outfit reduced to 13 men as Hennie Daniller and Dario Chistolini were sent from the field, while Rory Sutherland also received his marching orders for Edinburgh.

Despite a successful Heathcote penalty it was Zebre who dealt better with the reduction in numbers and Haimona’s second from the tee took them to within four points.

The momentum was now with the home team and Bisegni touched down to take them ahead with 17 minutes to go. And they sealed the victory when Visentin went over late on for their second triumph of the Pro12 season.
