Munster back Keith Earls will miss Ireland's opening November Test clash with Samoa on Saturday due to a knee injury.

The 26-year-old is, however, expected to overcome a bout of patella tendonitis or “jumpers knee” in time to face Australia and New Zealand in his country's remaining test-matches later this month.

While it was bad news for Earls, who has enjoyed a fine run of early-season form with Munster, Ireland were boosted by the respective recoveries of Sean O'Brien, Cian Healy and Paul O'Connell – all of whom are set to take a full part in training tomorrow.

And despite reports that fly-half Jonathan Sexton had agitated an old injury prior to Racing Metro's defeat to Biarritz on Saturday, the play-maker is fit to play.
