Stormers fly-half Robert du Preez is close to stepping back onto the field after resuming full training this week.

Du Preez was sidelined with a knee injury way back in Round Two of this year's Super Rugby competition, having impressed in the Stormers' opening weekend win over the Bulls.

Kurt Coleman, prior to tearing his ACL, and Jean-Luc du Plessis have worn the number ten shirt in his absence, but the return of Du Preez now ahead of the run-in to the play-offs would be a timely boost.

Du Preez and Jaco Taute, along with Wilco Louw and Jean Kleyn, all now need minutes under their belt to build up match fitness, and the latter pair may feature in the Currie Cup.

"The problem we have is that they haven't had game time," assistant coach Russell Winter told Sport24.

"If they don't play for us then maybe they can play some Currie Cup on the weekend. JK (Kleyn) is ready and Wilco Louw is also ready."
