Montpellier hooker Bismarck du Plessis is set for a spell on the sidelines after injuring himself in last weekend's Top 14 action.

The 32-year-old suffered a torn pectoral muscle before going for scans to assess the damage on Monday, which ruled that Du Plessis will require surgery that will keep him out for between two to three months.

Du Plessis suffered the injury in the win over Pau and will be sorely missed by the club in the Top 14 and Champions Cup during his absence.

Charles Géli and Arno van Wyk are Montpellier's remaining options in their squad at hooker.
