Canterbury have suffered a major blow to their Mitre 10 Cup hopes after scrum-half Mitchell Drummond broke his leg in a training session.

In a Tweet on their official page, the seven-time champions revealed that their number nine broke his left fibula and needs an operation.

Drummond has been in excellent form this Mitre 10 Cup season for Canterbury, improving with each game as their first-choice scrum-half.

According to Canterbury, the 22-year-old is hopeful of returning to action in time for the 2017 Super Rugby campaign with the Crusaders.
