Dragons decide on new captain

Welsh International Thomas Rhys Thomas has been named Newport Gwent Dragons Captain for the coming 2015/16 season.

The hooker has been internationally capped over 25 times for Wales and made numerous appearances as captain of the Men of Gwent last season.

The 32-year-old who was born in Abercynon is a solid choice for Director of Rugby Lyn Jones, after impressing with his leadership skills last season.

Commenting on his announcement, Director of Rugby Lyn Jones said: "Rhys has made a real impression with everybody here at the Dragons.

"Being a tough, mature and consistent performer has made him an excellent choice as a role model and as our Skipper.

"Both strong and positive are key skills of leadership that is absolutely critical for our squad maintaining its growth.”

The Dragons' newly appointed skipper, T. Rhys Thomas added: "I am truly honoured to have been selected as Captain for the coming season. I thoroughly enjoyed leading the team last year, with the challenge being to guide young Gwent talent to the next level.

"There has been a massive change in the squad attitude and the standard at the Dragons since I arrived in 2013 and I am excited about our prospects for next season.”
