Highlanders hooker Ash Dixon was taken to hospital on Thursday but it was announced that he has no serious injury.
Dixon, who will serve as co-captain with full-back Ben Smith in the upcoming season, was taken to hospital for a neck niggle according to Stuff.co.nz.
It has not been determined at what stage he will be right and ready to return to the paddock and is still working with the Highlanders medical team.
If Dixon's injury was exacerbated, it would have been a massive loss for the Otago side, as he has just taken over the key-leadership position of co-captain from Shane Christie.
Highlanders coach Tony Brown said Dixon was the ideal candidate for co-captain after skippering other big sides in the past.
"He's been a member of our leadership group over the past couple of years and has the leadership qualities which made him the obvious candidate," Brown told the Otago Daily Times.
"He has experience with captaining the Maori and Hawke's Bay and we know he will do a good job."
